Andrea Borel

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, LATIN AMERICA

Andrea Borel, executive director for HSI/Latin America, oversees HSI’s programs in Costa Rica, El Salvador and Guatemala, including efforts to curb animal cruelty, implement animal welfare legislation, stop wildlife trafficking and build the capacity of local partners and governments to protect animals. Borel has worked in the region for many years.

Before joining HSI, she served as conservation director for The Nature Conservancy in Costa Rica, worked for a private equity renewable energy fund in Central America and was the senior environmental specialist for the U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica. When she started at HSI in 2017, she fulfilled a lifelong dream. Her latest pets: a dog named Ramón and a rescued rabbit named Hector.
